A letter from
Sheree J. Riley, a past EWISP Award Recipient.
Through the
$5,000 scholarship award, Executive Women International recognized me as
one who had achieved greatness. I was able to use that money towards furthering
my education at Florida A&M University. My first year was adjustment period
where I took time to get accustomed to a new region and a unique learning
environment. I participated in intramural track, softball, and flag football
as extra-curricular activities. Sophomore year I joined the DC Metro Club,
a support group for FAMU students from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I was active
in the club for three years, serving as sophomore representative, treasurer,
vice-president, and president. I also joined Adopt-A-Grandparent, a group
that visits with residents in nursing homes on weekends. I served as historian
and assistant coordinator and completed over ninety hours of community service
over a three-year period with the organization. During my junior year I joined
Toastmasters International and the National Association of Black Accountants.
Furthermore, I was inducted into the White and Gold Honor Society. I worked
on campus through out my matriculation at FAMU with the Regional Institute
for Math and Science. Senior year I began attending career fairs in search
of employment while finishing my last few required courses. I also prepared
to permanently move back to the Washington, DC area. Within my four years
of school, I made the honor roll and the Dean's List several times and received
a 4.0 GPA for two semesters. Finally, on May 3, 2003 I graduated Magna Cum
Laude with a 3.33 GPA and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Florida A&M University's
School of Business and Industry. I plan to begin a CPA review course in January
2004 and sit for the CPA exam in April 2004. So, thank you very much to Executive
Women International for encouraging me along the way with the monetary incentive.
It was greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Sheree Riley
